IS IT SUMMER YET???

The weather doesn’t quite think so but we are close and Madison Park will soon be bustling at the beach and kids will be roaming free for a few months. Here’s what to expect for the summer from Friends of Madison Park.

Second Chance Prom

***Must start this update with the disappointing news that the Second Chance Prom has been cancelled for this coming Saturday, June 1. We needed a certain number of tickets sold in order to pay for the Prom and that just wasn’t happening. Refunds have been issued for tickets sold. Learning as we go, but always welcome feedback about what we might have done differently to make this event a success. Hopefully we will have a second chance in the future for a Second Chance Prom.

Pub Crawl

Join the Madison Park Pub Crawl on June 22. Stroll from Nick’s (8-9) to the Attic (9-11) to McGilvra’s (11-1) and enjoy drinks with friends. Specials to be offered.

Children’s Parade and Picnic

The Children’s Parade and Picnic is set for Saturday July 13th from 12-2. Meet at 11:45 at Starbuck’s to decorate your bike/yourself for the parade- led by our local station’s Fire Engine. Then stay for games, face painting, watermelon eating contest, hot dogs, snow cones and crafts. Want to help out? We need volunteers for the day- sign up HERE. All ages welcome. Free!

And Shop Local! The same day will be the Sidewalk Sale in the business district.

Music in the Park

Music in the Park is now fully scheduled and we have 5 Thursdays of music!! Each Thursday in August from 6:30-8, bring your picnic blanket, your family and friends, your delicious food and beverages and enjoy a variety of bands. The Line-up is: August 1- Buena Vibra; August 8- Montlake Traffic; August 15- The Daddz; August 22-  Red 28; August 29- The Humbuckers. Check out details on our Events Page HERE.

Business District Planters Are Arriving this Week

Our Beautify Madison Park project is underway with 10 planters being installed this coming week. The planters will be filled with seasonal evergreens and color.

Combined with our year-round lighting of trees, Spring and Fall Neighborhood Clean-Up Days and planned phases to add additional planters and bed plantings in the coming year, the Beautify Madison Park Project wants to assure that Madison Park is looking its best for all of us to enjoy.

Please join our campaign. All levels of donations are welcome; more details/donation info are HERE. Or contribute through Give Big 2024!

McGilvra Elementary School

Last Newsletter, we let the community know that we are at risk of losing McGilvra Elementary School in 2025. You can read again about their Call for Help and what you can do HERE. Also HERE is a Template Letter Supporting McGIlvra Elementary from the community that you can send to Bev Redmond, Chief of Staff, Seattle Public Schools (publicaffairs@seattleschools.org) and our SPS board member Michell Sarju (michelle.sarju@seattleschools.org).

 Happy Birthday To US

Friends of Madison Park will officially be one year old June 26, 2024. It’s been an extraordinary year of organizing and gatherings and a return to being engaged in our community through events and projects and pipe dreams. FOMP began from scratch and with a boost from the former Madison Park Community Council, we have blossomed into a neighborhood organization that provides monthly events, projects and a vision to assure Madison Park is a vibrant and inclusive neighborhood.
