Farmers Market Survey
The Friends of Madison Park is gauging whether our neighborhood would support, or not, a trial run of having a Saturday morning market this summer - with 20 - 25 vendors selling organic produce, cheeses, and meats from June 14 to September 13, 2025.
The farmers market would be run by the Seattle Farmers Market Association and based on other markets experience we’d expect 70% of the patrons of the market would be within walking distance (within 1 mile), but some may drive and the market itself will use parking spots during setup, takedown, and the market itself. There are more frequently asked questions below.
FAQs
-
The Market is proposed to be located on 42nd Ave E between E. Blaine and E. Madison and to occupy the 16-18 parking spots along that block.
-
The market would run from 10AM - 2PM on Saturdays in the summer (June 14 until September 13, 2025). That block would be closed from 8AM - 4PM on market days.
The Market would be permitted for a one summer trial run.
-
The Market would have 20-25 vendors of organic produce and food artisans from Washington State, most from within 50 miles of Seattle, who would receive 91% of sales profits.
The Market would not displace the Friday Madrona Farmer’s Market.
-
In comparable farmers markets 70% of market goers come from within 1 mile of the market and businesses generally show a 30% increase in sales on market days. The market would be centrally located for easy access by walking, biking, strollering, or bussing. The market would provide limited designated parking spots for businesses in that city block, as requested.
The expectation is that 1,000 shoppers would come over the 4 hour period of the market and would predominantly be local residents.
Market vendors vehicles would not be parked in any residential parking spots, unless prior approval is attained by the SFMA. Neighborhood parking may be additionally impacted by summer beach goers.

The Seattle Farmer’s Market Association (SFMA), operating since 2000, runs the Madrona, Wallingford, and Ballard Farmer’s Market. The Madrona Farmer’s Market will continue running in its current location at Grocery Outlet on Fridays.
A Farmer’s Market Permit will be issued by the City for one year if all safety (including fire and police department regulations) and insurance requirements are met by SFMA and if there is evidence of community wide support. 100% approval is not required for issuance of the permit. SFMA is insured by Campbell Insurance Company for $2 million per incident plus a rider; each vendor is required to be insured with a $1 million policy plus a rider.
