Madison Kitchen

Madison Kitchen

There’s no shortage of great places to eat in Madison Park, a neighborhood known for its friendly, independently owned restaurants.  A favorite among them: Madison Kitchen helmed by chefs Caprial and John Pence. Seattle foodies are undoubtedly familiar with the Pence name. Early in their careers, Caprial and John worked at Fullers, an elegant downtown Seattle restaurant and early pioneer in the Northwest local foods movement. While there, Caprial won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef in the Northwest. The couple – who met while attending the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park – later moved to Portland where Caprial opened her own restaurant, wrote nine cookbooks and, with John, hosted a PBS cooking show on The Learning Channel.

Fortunately for us, the Pences moved back to Seattle in 2014. Since taking over Madison Kitchen in September 2020, they’ve dished up a wide menu of breakfast, brunch, and lunch items – along with impossible-to-resist pastries – from 8 AM to 3 PM daily.  You can take your favorites to go or join friends and neighbors in the convivial outdoor covered area. Caprial notes that while all their menu items sell very well, their frozen soups and entrees have proven to be especially popular. And if you’re throwing a party, keep in mind: Madison Kitchen also offers catering.
