The Original Children’s Shop

The Original Children’s Shop has been the area’s go-to destination for stylish kids’ clothing since 1952. And, though it’s moved locations a couple of times, it’s been a family-owned-and-operated business for all of those 72 years. It’s definitely been a labor of love for several generations of the Etherington/Kucher family who purchased the store in 1989. Known for its colorful window displays (including a giant hydrangea tree from the set of a children’s theater production), the shop is presently owned and operated by Kellie Lillybridge – the third generation in her family to carry on the tradition. (Fun side note: Kellie’s grandmother, Karol Kennedy Kucher, was a U.S. figure skating champion. She and her brother won the World Championship in 1950 and the silver medal in the 1952 Winter Olympics. You can see her skates and other memorabilia in a display case within the store.)

Many of the clothing selections in the shop are European specialty brands or American brands only carried in small retail boutiques. The store loves supporting women-owned, mom-run businesses when it can. Something every busy shopper appreciates: The store offers complimentary gift wrapping and will ship anywhere in the world. Another huge convenience for families: The store houses a children’s hair salon – complete with a Mercedes Benz chair for kids age 4 and under plus a larger chair for older children. Hairdresser Rachel is a pro at putting the kiddos at ease and helping parents decide on the right cut for their children.
