Madison Park Hardware

It’s doubtful any hardware store anywhere is as beloved as our own Madison Park Hardware. The independent general store has been here longer than most of us can remember – since the 1940s, to be exact. Many of us do fondly remember Lola McKee who, with her family, owned and operated the store for 54 years before selling it in 2010 to Adam Hagan, a fifth-generation Madison Parker who’d worked at the store during his high school and college years. Today, Adam and his team of four part-time employees ensure we have everything we need to fix and maintain our homes.

While the store does carry all manner of tools, plumbing and electrical supplies, paint and garden products one would expect in a hardware store, it goes far beyond, offering everything from housewares and kitchen gadgets to office supplies, toys, and craft items – in other words, everything but the kitchen sink. As one Yelp reviewer described the store, “It’s like Mary Poppins’ carpet bag; it’s small but they have everything.”  Displayed in the window this month: hummingbird feeders, Hot Wheels toy cars, canning equipment, and pottery crafted by Kim Wratten, one of the store’s employees. In a throwback to the good old days, the store even boasts a penny gumball machine for the kids.

Yelpers and neighbors rave about the knowledgeable and friendly staff that goes out of its way to help customers find just the right screw, hex bit, or paint brush needed for a home improvement project. Questions about how to fix something? Chances are, they have the answers.
