Last month’s meeting had a full agenda of past events and upcoming ones like our Fall Clean-UP, discussions about whether to bring a Farmers Market to Madison Park, how to learn more and respond to the One Seattle Plan, and what volunteer needs Friends of Madison Park has. You can view the meeting HERE. Can’t attend our December 2 meeting? you can Live Stream HERE and view our past meetings.

SUMMER 2025 FARMER’S MARKET IN MADISON PARK?

If you missed our Neighborhood Meeting, strong feelings were expressed opposing a Farmer’s Market; strong applause responded in favor of a market. Friends of Madison Park continues to meet with businesses and members of our community- working to gauge whether our neighborhood would support, or not, a trial run of having a Saturday morning market this summer- with 20-25 vendors selling organic produce, cheeses, and meats from June 14 to September 15.

In the next two weeks we will circulate a Survey with detailed information to the community- allowing you to express your support or opposition. If you missed responding to earlier surveys, please have your voice heard this time. Our intention is to be sure to reach as many members in our community as we can, to hear the facts and not rumors, gauge support or opposition, avoid divisiveness, and address concerns.

Please know Friends of Madison Park is exploring the market at the behest of many from our neighborhood and with our mission always in mind- “Promoting a resilient and civically-engaged community by connecting neighbors. Creating a welcoming and inclusive neighborhood through cultural and multi-generational engagement and outreach. Fostering neighborhood pride by promoting a beautiful, vibrant, and respectful community.”

ONE SEATTLE PLAN

If you have not heard of the One Seattle Plan, or if you would like to do a deeper dive, this is your opportunity to learn more about the projected zoning changes that may come to Madison Park. Friends of Madison Park has invited the City Department of Planning to come to our neighborhood and explain the impact of this plan on our community but at this time, they have declined and instead directed us to Information Sessions taking place in the coming weeks. Go HERE for more information and attend a meeting if possible. Deadline to adopt the plan by the State Legislature is June 2025. We are looking for a Volunteer to monitor the plans and be a liaison for Madison Park in the decisions to be made. Proposed are 5 story height increase in our business district and parts of 43rd E as well as 3 story height increase into some of the surrounding residential blocks.
