August Notes: Wrapping Up Summer

As Summer Comes to a Close, Madison Park has been witness to many days of picnics and music, beach time and sunshine. We have also been witness to a loss in our community that has touched so many.

JOIN US IN HONORING OUR NEIGHBOR, RUTH DALTON

On August 20, 2024, Ruth Dalton and her beloved dog, Prince, were tragically lost to senseless violence during a carjacking. In response, the community she so dearly touched is coming together to honor her legacy of love and kindness and to advocate for solutions to the violence that took her from us.

Please join your neighbors for a Candlelight Memorial Walk on Wednesday, September 4, at 6:30 PM, beginning at the corner of Harrison Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way and concluding at Madison Park.

If you would like to donate in memory of Ruth, you can visit the GoFundMe page or the Friends of Madison Park page for more information.

As kids head back to school and expected changes in the weather will come, Friends of Madison Park looks forward to events and projects that will buoy us all through the coming months:

PARTY FOR THE PARK

MUSIC IN THE PARK: SUMMER SOUNDS, ALL AUGUST LONG

Our Music in the Park series kicked off on Thursday, August 1st, and it’s been a blast ever since — thank you to everyone who joined us! We’ve been bringing the neighborhood together all month to enjoy the last days of summer with a mix of live music perfect for picnicking and hanging out in Madison Park.

With a lineup with something for everyone, these events were packed with music, raffles, and fun—all free to attend. We’re already excited for next year!

A big shoutout to our awesome sponsors: Aegis Living, Windermere Madison Park, Coldwell Banker, Bain, Wicklund Real Estate, and Transform 180 Fitness, for making it all happen!

THE MADISON PARK ART WALK IS QUICKLY APPROACHING

The opening date for the Madison Park Art Walk, sponsored by HomeStreet Bank, will be Friday, September 13th, from 5 to 8 p.m. Mark your calendars to view great local art around the neighborhood!

BEAUTIFY MADISON PARK

If you have enjoyed seeing the new planters along the business district, you will definitely love the plans for the Fall. Daffodils and plants have been ordered to fill in under the younger planted trees along Madison. We still need to raise funds to complete those plantings and install low plant fencing to protect the new plants. ALL DONATIONS GO TOWARD PLANTS AND MAINTENANCE! Please join us in Beautifying our Neighborhood. You can Donate HERE or by clicking on the flyer below.

SAVE THE DATE- NOVEMBER 16TH

Please join our Neighborhood Work Party on Saturday, November 16th from 9 to Noon for a Fall Clean-Up. Supported by Seattle’s Adopt-A-Street Program, we will rake, weed, scrub and beautify our neighborhood business area. We did our first clean-up in the Spring and look forward to a great turn-out again to help us get ready for the holiday months ahead! Sign Up HERE.

TRIANGLE PARK

On August 22, the Seattle Dept. of Transportation ruled that How To Cook A Wolf’s application for a permit to use Triangle Park for outdoor dining has been denied. The restaurant has until September 22 to remove its structure and seating. Friends of Madison Park is in ongoing discussions with the restaurant and the McNae Family (who originally donated the planting and park configuration to Madison Park) to assure continued maintenance for the park. More details to come.

HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD — COMPLETE OUR SURVEY

We have been busy taking a Survey this summer at the Beach, a follow-up Survey last Spring- to find out 2 simple questions- what do you love about our Bathhouse, parks and beach and what improvements would you like to see. We are exploring park and Bathhouse renovations and shoreline restoration for Madison Park, and we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Please take 5 minutes to complete our brief survey!
