Turn the Page to 2025

It’s A New Year and a new schedule for our Neighborhood Meetings (see below).

In the coming year, Friends of Madison Park will be working with neighbors to better understand and respond to the One Seattle Plan. We will be exploring renovation of the Bathhouse and restoration of Madison Park Beach in partnership with Seattle Parks and Seattle Parks Foundation. Friends will be investing continued energy to make even better the fun events and successful projects of the past year, increasing focus on the safety of our neighborhood, crosswalks and businesses and the retention of McGilvra Elementary School.

ONE SEATTLE PLAN

Thanks to all who submitted letters to Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development and to Joy Hollingsworth’s office regarding the One Seattle Plan. A neighborhood committee has been formed and is now working on a response to the increased density proposals of the One Seattle Plan. If you are interested in volunteering with this committee, please reach out to volunteer@friendsofmadisonpark.com.

Every neighborhood in Seattle is pushing back on the One Seattle Plan, and Madison Park is not exempt from changes that are coming. We would like to present a thoughtful, well-researched and reasoned counter proposal to our Neighborhood Center designation.

If there is a neighbor who is a land use attorney, we could use your expertise. If there are neighbors who have expertise in urban planning, environmental science and ecology, water management and hydrology, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure, transportation, or historical and cultural preservation- these are all areas that we would like to be sure are weighed by the Council before the final plan is submitted to the legislature in June 2025.

Mark your calendars- Our Neighborhood Meeting on Tuesday, February 4th at 7:00 at the Bathhouse will focus on the details of the One Seattle Plan. There is also a public hearing with the Seattle City Council on Wednesday February 5th at 5:00.
