SPEAK UP
DEADLINE FOR FARMER’S MARKET COMMENT PERIOD IS TOMORROW, MARCH 17TH
Just a REMINDER that Seattle’s Department of Transportation (SDOT) is now deciding whether a pilot Farmers Market can move forward in Madison Park. The last day to submit comments is tomorrow- March 17, 2025. This is your chance to make your voice heard.
Now is the last time for SDOT to hear from you! Late last year, over 700 residents and businesses responded to our neighborhood survey about bringing a Farmers Market to Madison Park with over 90% supporting a trial run this summer, running Saturdays, June 14 – September 20. Friends of Madison Park conveyed community sentiment to SDOT—along with the survey results.
Click here to email SDOT or read more about it.
Every comment counts (pro, con or neutral) - don’t miss your opportunity! We encourage all community members to share their perspective so that SDOT has a full understanding of public sentiment before making its final decision.

The removal of the last Wells-Fargo sign was because of the neighborhood feedback last Fall. Have your voice heard now.
ONE SEATTLE PLAN COMMENT
Friends of Madison Park’s SEPA Appeal to the One Seattle Plan (requesting additional Environmental Review of Madison Park’s stormwater/wastewater infrastructure, among other concerns) is now consolidated with 5 other appellants and before the City of Seattle Hearing Examiner. A 3 week hearing is scheduled to begin April 28th. (SEE JANUARY 30TH NEWSLETTER FOR MORE ONE SEATTLE PLAN INFO)
Full disclosure to the community, a favorable legal outcome is a long shot because of standing (long legal story) and exemptions prohibiting appeals for affordable housing increases. This litigation would require a battalion of attorneys to respond to the filings, hearings and 3,465 pages submitted by the City Attorney this past week with a low chance of success.
We are taking the following actions and would like YOUR PARTICIPATION:
FoMP has submitted filings to clarify the existing wastewater capacity for our neighborhood- prior to any upzoning- and to understand more fully the closures of our beach last year and the impact of added multi-housing to the lake and public safety.
We are submitting responses to the City’s Motion to Dismiss the Appeal and also asserting that Dept. of Planing and Community Development failed to provide adequate public notice to the community regarding the zoning changes in the One Seattle Plan.
We have now created an updated version of Madison Park designation as a Neighborhood Center- with the boundaries to include the many multi-living units that already exist along 43rd E and E. McGilvra, and allow the more residential attenuated blocks reduce the height of upzoning that will be coming. Take a look at the Board-approved Adjustments and recommended zoning changes. HERE
We are reaching out AGAIN to the City to present this new version and here is where you come in.
We ask that you either draft your own email- pro, con or in-between- re the One Seattle plan or click on a template letter to our City Representatives: Council Rep. Joy Hollingsworth, the City Council at large, The Office of Planning and Community Development and the Mayor’s Office.
We will keep the community posted!
